Ibragim Samadow gewann ursprünglich die Bronzemedaille. Er war aber über seine Leistung derart enttäuscht, dass er die Medaille bei der Siegerehrung auf den Boden warf und weglief. Das Internationale Olympische Komitee disqualifizierte ihn daraufhin und vergab die Medaille nicht an den Viertplatzierten, da der Vorfall nach dem Wettkampf stattgefunden hatte.[.
